Curing Contagious Nationalism – Can it be done from the outside?
Populist leaders have rediscovered promoting a nationalist narrative, focusing on the importance of national security and sovereignty, while happily framing the opposition as enemies of the state. These ideas are spreading, and have begun to destabilise functioning democracies, especially during elections. This panel will explore how human rights defenders can challenge re-emerging nationalist narratives and what role international collaboration plays in organising a strong resistance.
